Then-2nd Lt. Dockery earned the nation's highest military honor for his actions during a Taliban ambush in Afghanistan on October 2, 2012. Despite intense enemy fire, he repeatedly risked his life to rescue wounded soldiers and later directed helicopter support as his unit evacuated the wounded.

Dockery is one of three veterans being recognized by President Trump for extraordinary acts of valor.
