Tom Cruise to play lead role in ‘Top Gun 2′. Tom Cruise’s character Maverick
was rumored to play a smaller role in the developing sequel to the 1986 classic ‘Top Gun’.

Now screenwriter Christopher McQuarrie has revealed Maverick will be the
film’s lead character. Tony Scott confirmed he will direct the follow-up to his
1986 blockbuster.
