Hollywood + , analogue audio out low solution.
The H+ card is a very good MPEG2 decoder board, but it is has problems with the audio output being too low, i had problems with my ProLogic decoder, which wont function properly, if the audio input is too low. I sat down and inspected the H+ card to find a solution to the problem and here is what i did to solve this problem. The analogue audio out(both the one to your sound card, and the mini jack on the rear of the card) Are driven by a philips TDA1308, this is a class a/b headphone amplifier, and Sigma has set the component values to a gain(amplification) of 1, if you want to modify this, you shall be aware that you are probably going to throw away any warranty you may have on the board, so it is on your own risk you do this, if you do anything wrong, your decoder may not function afterwards!. If this is no problem for you, then all you need is a soldering iron with a very fine tip(and of cause the skill to use it), two 10Kohms resistors,1/8W types are the most suitable for this purpose, since they are going to be paralell coupled on surface mounted resistors. This modification increases the ouput gain to 2, and i have not been able to hear any side effects (distortion etc.) after i modifyed my own board. Both resistors which shall be paralell coupled are located in the top left corner of the decoder board. The one resistor are soldered in paralell with R2 which is labelled 103=10Kohms, it is located on the right side of the onboard line out plug. The other is soldered in paralell with R3 which is also labelled 103=10Kohms, it is located on the right side of TDA 1308. When you have done this, be careful to inspect, that solderings you have made dont short circuit to any other components. When you have checked this, just install and connect your board again, and enjoy an output level which is much higher than before, i have made this modification to my own board, and now my ProLogic decoder sound is heavenly(and loud). This modification only raises the level on the two analouge outputs, it has no effect on the SPDIF output. Regards |
