10/31/2008, a dealer [at 民生東x段3角窗] with 3 asus sales reps. they demo 5 asus TVs, and key role is new 42rw1 [易錄fun].

asus reps [A]: this is newest and best TV in TW with DVR features.
L [that's me]: really? why you say it's the newest?
A: b/c so far no any other brand launches such TV/DVR here.
L: how come? LG launched it long time ago!
A: LG, doesn't count [b/c it's not TW brand] and not as good as ours [asus].
L: ok, TW first. then show me what it can do to be the best...
A: click some buttons to recall G-guide menu. see, you choose the show you want, then press 'green' key to timer record the show. just that simple/easy.
L: bit weird, b/c in every brand DVR 'red' mean record, why you change it to 'green'?
A: sigh.... let me show you its G-guide.
L: show me ch101[my favorite 淨空法師主講/華藏衛視], if G-guide is available?
A: ch101, see I told you our G-guide is the best, even ch101/102/103.... every channel has not only show time table, but brief show content intro for whole week.
L: hmm, this is good. b/c last year I tested another brand TV, it didn't have show info on later channels like ch101/102/103.....
L: how about POP, can you swap?
A: no problem, it can even zoom in/out.
L: how about none cable/DVBT sources, can it swap too?
A: oops, didn't know only L side can accept HD source...
L: does it have cc decoder?
A: what's it?
L: the chip can display hidden subtitle.
A: no, it's not required here.

A: v1.3a! they reply with confidence!!!

A: scaler, that's made by us, asus scaler.
L: what, really? since when asus makes its own scaler?
A: don't you know asus has big capital to make scaler.
L: pardon for my ignorance, but only know world top tier scaler makers like HQV, Faroudja, ABT, Marvel... hmm, this can be a headline breaking news! asus scaler...?
L: show me again how do you program the show I want to record.
A: as demo, very easy to setup timer record function.
L: say show A is 7-8, show B is 7:30-8:30. then how do you program it?
A: just do it like what we just did.
L: show me step by step to see how do you do.
A: they tried a few times but failed to make such programming.
L: didn't you just say it's that easy, how come you can't do it now?
A: sorry, it lacks such feature... can't overlap.
L: does TV has timeshift?
A: timeshift?
L: can I watch recorded show while record live show?
A: sorry, it can't.
L: how many tuners it has?
A: 2 analog + 1 DVBT.
L: DVBT HD?
A: no, only 15ch DVBT.
L: then can it record 2 shows simultaneously? [either cable + DVBT or 2 cables]
A: no, it can record 1 show at a time.
L: so what's 3 tuners for if can't record both?
A: just for you to watch 2 live shows.
L: how about overscan?
A: no problem, let me show you it can make 1080 pixel-2-pixel.
L: hmm, good, in every mode?
A: no, only PC mode.
L: does it have 120Hz or 10bits tech?
A: what for?
L: where is TV made?
A: at our factory, 龜山. MIT.
L: can user exchange HDD by himself?
A: no he can't. but TV has a USB port.
L: how to backup recorded show?
A: just move to USB, then use PC to duplicate.
L: can I delete unwanted ad?
A: you have to edit on PC.
L: can it record BS?
A: no, it can't handle BS.
L: how long is warranty?
A: 3 years full TV, includes remote.
L: how much is it?
A: MSRP $56900, but you can talk to dealer boss for better deal.

my comments:
its unknown scaler [or they claim asus made] doesn't give very smooth PQ.
Y/C separation isn't very good, somehow cross-coloured.
DVBT receiption is acceptable with little lag. [not sure if it's caused by traffic?]
remote has no backlit.
normal speed video is ok, but not good when show fast moving video. [that's why I am looking for 120Hz TV].
F/W design isn't so user friendly, not so advanced/matured/sophiscated as my many years old HRD2.
sales reps ain't so knowledgeable on products. 竟然被我這個毫無工科背景的一般用戶問倒了!

this TV isn't worth such big bucks!
you should buy a better TV with such budget or get a comparable TV + more user friendly DVR. unless you want all-in-one design TV/DVR.

believe here has some asus TV team members. if you read my post, you may answer some questions and teach your sales team to be more well trained.
