RatDVD is the result of my downloading experiences. Downloading movies, even DVD rips never really worked out to what I expected.

When I download movies, I want the full DVD features set and I want to be able to watch it on any DVD player - without loosing any features of the original DVD. That is what ratDVD can do for you.

簡單來說，就是現在備份DVD或者RIP DVD的方式太過複雜，而且也損失太多DVD的特點(DVD不只是只有影像好而已)，故作者創造了這個軟體。

特色：
ratDVD takes a full featured DVD-9 movie and puts it into a highly compressed .ratDVD container format file of about 1.x GB in size - while preserving all the features of the original DVD such as:

* Full anamorphic picture, seamless branching, multiple video angles, multiple audio channels, subpictures, etc.
* Keep movie versions (Directors Cut, Theatrical version, etc.), Alternate story endings, making of, video commentary , cut scenes, etc..
* Keep complete menus, navigation and features
* Reliable high quality, valid check-summed container.

簡言之，
縮的妙，但品質並未有很大的損失(有人是說約10%的畫質，不過我還試過，也不一定有好配備看的出來)。
流傳易，字幕不用另外找(除了不同區、有無翻譯的問題)。
相容性：可轉回DVD格式，便於在家用DVD觀看。

幾點注意事項：
1.Make sure you use WinXP, DirectX9 and have installed Media Player 10
這一點很簡單，大家都看的懂吧！

2.By default RatDVD will remove DTS tracks and transcode LPCM and Dolby AC-3 5.1 tracks to Dolby AC-3 Virtual Surround to save space without really noticeable loss of quality.

Converted a ripped DVD (The Italian Job) (7 GB) I used default settings (95) and the quality is very good. It took 8 hours until it was finished. Size is now (1.9 GB)
*到底要花多久時間是個未知數，有人說他花了五個多小時，有的說睡一覺就好。

Movie : Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets
Original DVD size : 7.49GB
RatDVD file size (with 5.1 -> 2.0) : 1.44GB
Transcoded DVD size : 6.05GB
Quality : Default 95%
I just don't get to play with .ratDVD, using neither MPC and VLC (my WMP is old and don't want to upgrade it to WMP10, because of I already used it before and I didn't like it).
*其實有使用者說wmp10不裝也是可以用的。


總結，這個軟體看來還蠻有潛力的，省去code、字幕的許多問題。對於懶得與各種軟體搏鬥，又想備份與RIP DVD的人，或許這是一條道路。
