The Rock successfully made the leap to the big screen with this "Mummy" spin-off, and is on course to break the April opening weekend record to boot. By comparison, "The Mummy" unearthed $15 million on its first Friday, while "The Mummy Returns" took in $23.4 million. They went on to have opening weekends of $43.4 million and $68.1 million respectively.
