Video Essentials Is Collecting Dust Now...
...Now that this DVD disc allows me to go straight to the test patterns I want, quickly.
The test patterns also look much better too, partly due to the advances made in mastering DVD's since the original Video Essentials DVD was made.
This disc makes it a breeze to set both black level and white level at the same time, using one test pattern.
It is also perfect for computer-based DVD players connected to RGB-compatible front projection systems (treated like one gigantic computer monitor) like mine. Some of these computer-based DVD players have software picture adjustments like brightness and contrast. It is very difficult to know which is best to adjust - the contrast adjustment on the projector, or the contrast adjustment in the DVD player software. The AVIA DVD disc makes it easier to experiment with different software settings (player adjustments) and hardware settings (projector picture controls). You can also flip between test patterns much more quickly too.
Forget Video Essentials - this is the reference quality test DVD disc!

Avia Is A Must Have, You Need This Disc
This disc contains a lot of useful information and tests for setting up your home theater. Not only do you get a extensive set of test tones and test patterns, but you also get detailed descriptions of what each test is used for.
The Audio tones contain a full range of tests. You can start by balancing the volume levels. From there you can run extra tests to check for low frequency hums and rattles. There are tests for individual speakers as well as the whole 5.1 system.
The video tests are great too. No longer do you have to worry about the blacker than black pluge tests that other calibration discs use. These test patterns have been designed for DVD systems.
I rented Video Essentials, but I OWN Avia!
