Unhappy Realtek 8139 conflict with ADSL Modem

Sorry I have to type this in English, because it is ridiculously hard to type Chinese on the machine I am using now.

Currently I am travelling in China, and I just setup an ADSL connection in Shanghai. My machine, an ASUS L3814 PDR NOTEBOOK refuses to work with the ADSL modem provided by the local ISP, Shanghai Telecom. The model of the ADSL modem is SVT 8000R (www.njsvt.com), I think the controller chip is ADI.

Whenever I connect the ADSL modem to my lan port the modem reports it is receiving random signals from my NIC, thus it can't recognize it and I can't connect it to the Internet. (Dialer: NetVoyager)

However the ADSL modem works perfectly with my oLder ACER notebook, Travel Mate 350 series which uses an Intel 82559 NIC. I guess this might be the perfect example of Intel vs. cheap stuff.

Is there anyway to get my RealTek 8139 NIC to work with my ADSL?
I already updated the drivers but nothing happened.

Notebook: ASUS L3814 PDR
OS: WinXP Home SP1
ADSL: SVT 8000R 512/512
