4月6日，在委內瑞拉「解放者」空軍基地舉行9架中國K-8W教練機交機儀式

2008年底，委內瑞拉與中國簽署了購買18架K-8W型教練機及相關設備的合同，用於替換美制的教練機，總價值約3.8億美元。這批飛機已於2010年全部交付。

委內瑞拉於2013年再次增購了9架K-8W教練機。

在軍機領域，委內瑞拉對中國洪都航空工業集團的另一款產品也表現出濃厚的興趣。2015年，委內瑞拉國防部在新聞稿中透露，將訂購24架洪都航空工業集團設計生產的L-15「獵鷹」超音速高級教練機，用於培訓F-16A/B和蘇-30MKV飛行員。
