其實這段,從單字到結構都算比較簡單的。
如果有什麼單字看不懂,那表示閱讀量還不太夠,沒事多看外文。
主要分成兩段:
1. A survey of new stories in 1996 reveals

2. from authorities who advocated the elimination of the last remaining stocks of smallpox virus
to Republicans who advocated decreased funding for basic research.
英文一般來說會把最重要、想要講的點放在最前面,所以你想要看一段文在講什麼廢話,先看最前面,以這個例子來說:1 是主述,2 是補述。
而補述看起來很長,其實也是廢話,用的是最常見的 from ooo to xxx 的句型,因此只要把 ooo 跟 xxx 各當成"一個東西"來看待即可。
其實要克服這些問題,只要有恆心的一直看英文報章雜誌跟書就可以了。
看什麼文法書根本沒用,當初我也是跟你一樣有這個困擾,因為工作需要不得不去看大量學術英文,買了一堆文法書,最後全忘光光。
只好用最蠢的閱讀法來練英文,就是沒事一直看一直看一直看。
第一次看不懂沒關係,多看幾次就懂了。
所以為啥我那麼愛看 mail online,因為平常都看又硬又臭又長的東西,看那些東西對我來說是消遣。
