其實這段，從單字到結構都算比較簡單的。
如果有什麼單字看不懂，那表示閱讀量還不太夠，沒事多看外文。

主要分成兩段：

1. A survey of new stories in 1996 reveals

to Republicans who advocated decreased funding for basic research.


英文一般來說會把最重要、想要講的點放在最前面，所以你想要看一段文在講什麼廢話，先看最前面，以這個例子來說：1 是主述，2 是補述。
而補述看起來很長，其實也是廢話，用的是最常見的 from ooo to xxx 的句型，因此只要把 ooo 跟 xxx 各當成"一個東西"來看待即可。

其實要克服這些問題，只要有恆心的一直看英文報章雜誌跟書就可以了。
看什麼文法書根本沒用，當初我也是跟你一樣有這個困擾，因為工作需要不得不去看大量學術英文，買了一堆文法書，最後全忘光光。
只好用最蠢的閱讀法來練英文，就是沒事一直看一直看一直看。
第一次看不懂沒關係，多看幾次就懂了。
所以為啥我那麼愛看 mail online，因為平常都看又硬又臭又長的東西，看那些東西對我來說是消遣。
