A major reason for the increased bearish sentiment was VMware announcing a joint venture with EMC during its earnings call, to form a cloud company known as Virtustream. The company would be owned by both EMC and VMware in a 50-50 arrangement. However, its earnings results would be consolidated into the latter’s financial statements from the first quarter of 2016. Considering that EMC already owns a majority share of VMware, and would soon be acquired by Dell, investors are viewing the joint venture as further complication in an already confusing scenario. It would make it increasingly hard for investors to get a clear insight into VMware’s financial results going forward.
