2000年六月初，在第三張專輯 El Cuerpo y Alma/身體與靈魂 發行前兩個禮拜，Soraya 做自我乳房測試時發現異狀(因家族病史，她定期會自檢)，經醫院證實為乳癌第三期，Soaraya 決定積極投入治療。
而在她迅速展開療程的第二個禮拜，她被告知她阿姨剛剛因乳癌過世，Soaraya 說當下她決定停止問自己 "為什麼是我？" 而開始問 "我該做些什麼？"
於是她暫停演藝事業的演出活動，只有寫歌與參與防治乳癌的公益活動 (Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation)。
2002年底，Soraya 決定將所創作的歌曲集結，發行了 Soraya 同名專輯，甚至舉辦演唱會，即使她的體力有時連抱起吉他都沒辦法，需要別人幫忙用帶子選個最輕的吉他掛在她肩上。
2004年，Soraya 在廚房暈倒，她馬上去看醫生，醫生卻發現她的癌症已經蔓延到肺與肝，同年底她決定開始錄製新歌，整張專輯的歌曲都是自行創作(或參與製作)，並在專輯裡自行演奏了多種樂器(吉他，曼陀林，聲樂，小提琴，Tiple吉他)，於2005年三月發行最後一張專輯 El otro lado de mi 我的另一面。
2006年五月九日，在 Soraya 的網站上刊載了她給歌迷的 Good-bye letter, 全文充滿了愛、關懷、對於生命、物質的體認與定位，正面積極向上。
