AT&T to cut HTC One X price by half, says paper

AT&T will more than halve the contract price of HTC's One X smartphone sold through its channels from US$199 to US$99 starting July 30, according to a Chinese-language Commercial Times report.

Sales of HTC's One series have been lower than expectations due to the impact of weak global economic conditions and Samsung Electronics' recently released Galaxy S3, said the paper.

HTC is expected to ship nine million smartphones in the third quarter at best, with revenues reaching slightly over NT$80 billion (US$2.66 billion) compared to NT$91.04 billion recorded in the previous quarter, the paper quoted sources in HTC's supply chain as indicating.

HTC will reveal its guidance for the third quarter at an investors conference to be held on August 3.
