不知道有沒有在美國領有駕照的網友可以解釋一下。

vehicle, car, automobile 在美國不同的地方有不同的偏好用法。
Vehicle
From American Heritage Dictionary 4th Ed.
A device or structure for transporting persons or things.
From Webster's Unabridged 3
a means of carrying or transporting something
vehicle 翻成中文應該是交通工具，並不特定指四輪的汽車。
所以 Bureau of Motor Vehicles 不只管理各式車輛，
有的也管理 Motorboat (有動力的船)，不過這在各州可能也有不同的規定。
例如我較熟悉的 Indiana 州

Indiana law requires the operator of a motorboat with an engine of more
than 10 horsepower to carry a valid driver’s license.
這段是說駕駛 10 馬力以上的動力船要攜帶駕照。
在這本 driver's manual 內同時也提到了要取得機車認證(Motorcycle Endorsement)的方法。
A motorcycle endorsement may be issued to Indiana residents who are at
least 16 years and 180 days old and hold a valid Indiana driver’s license.
Pass a standard vision screening test; and
Pass a motorcycle riding skills test given by a person certified by the
BMV or successfully complete an approved Indiana motorcycle safety
education course.
簡單地說，就是要先有汽車駕照，再去視力檢驗和路考。
再來看看 Motorcycle Operator's Manual,
目錄裏就有 Basic Vehicle Control，
可見 Motocycle 也算 Vehicle 的一種。
如果一句內要分別提到四輪汽車和機車，
就比較多用 car 和 motocycle.
而不會用 Vehicle 來指四輪汽車。
例如第六頁
Compared to a car, you don’t sit in a
motorcycle, you become part of it.
再回到 driver's manual ，
裏面 vehicle 用了 237 次，car 只用了 25 次。
因此我認為以 Indiana 州的法規來說，
Vehicle 泛指各式機動車輛，
相當於我國交通安全規則內的「汽車」，
其上的規定同時適用於四輪汽車(car) 和機車。
而有關機車的規定，
也是類似我國交通安全規則，
基於「汽車」的規則再加上專屬機車的規則。
