已於數年前結束. 私人公司的計畫, 要牟利還不打緊, 成果沒免費公佈給社群才是個問題.

為了避免這個狀況,版上先進重新過濾非營利的機構作為唯一的候選對象, 最後選擇

World Community Grid 專案, 以官網的說明自己睜大眼睛看.

World Community Grid is making technology available only to public and not-for-profit organizations to use in humanitarian research that might otherwise not be completed due to the high cost of the computer infrastructure required in the absence of a public grid. As part of our commitment to advancing human welfare, all results will be in the public domain and made public to the global research community.

Folding@Home也是另一個相同的例子, 並且也是世界最大的單一分散式運算計畫.

Who "owns" the results? What will happen to them?

Unlike other distributed computing projects, Folding@home is run by an academic institution (specifically the Pande Group, at Stanford University's - Chemistry Department), which is a nonprofit institution dedicated to science research and education. We will not sell the data or make any money off of it.

Moreover, we will make the data available for others to use. In particular, the results from Folding@home will be made available on several levels. Most importantly, analysis of the simulations will be submitted to scientific journals for publication, and these journal articles will be posted on the web page after publication. Next, after publication of these scientific articles that analyze the data, the raw data of the folding runs will be available for everyone, including other researchers, here on this web site.

要挑毛病的還會說, 隨便寫個冠冕堂皇的網頁誰不會, 我想這點不必浪費時間在一個小白

與全球數十萬人參與的公信組織之間多做選擇與解釋.


2. 社會是多元的,參加公益活動都是自己的心意, 你可以不參加, 但是請尊重別人的選擇.

相較於買顯卡天天狂打電動, 我不知道這高功耗的活動又有什麼具體貢獻? 但我還是尊重

GAMER的選擇. 反之亦然. 這幾年我個人對慈善救助的捐款已近十萬台票, 不見得捐錢

是唯一的方式, 有能力就選擇你適合的方式採取行動做點事, 總比晾在一旁光質疑別人要好.


3. 這些專案到底有什麼具體成果? 一樣, 隨便 搜尋 都能找到.

裡面的文獻都是近年,如果真的要十年後才能看到發表, 那只能說是台灣的教育扭曲.

不能拿來跟其他國際性的學術機構一概而論.


4. 是否有人從中獲益?
這個問題常被拿出來提, 或許研究者因此拿到學位, 發表論文, 獲得獎項, 但是對你我又如何?

公益活動本質是利他, 只要加速研究的成果屬於人類社群, 不要去計較研究者個人是否

能從此得益. Folding@Home只是一個墊腳石, 他不是研究直接的配方, 藥廠若看到

有興趣的研究結果仍舊需要經過許多過程才會有實際的藥品面市. 不能因為他縮短過程

就抹煞他所有努力, 認為價格就要低到大放送, 不然就是圖利了廠商. 如果沒有這些超大

型的專案加速這些過程, 可能有些研究結果要在更久以後才能出現, 對你我身健體強的

可能沒差, 對於有需要的人, 幾年的技術差異可能就是生死的分別. 替有需要的人

買到時間, 這些就是最起碼 利他利己的收穫.

說實在, 我希望我永遠不會用到Folding@Home的成果, 那代表著我持續健康終老.

心胸不要那麼狹隘只想看著自己要先獲利, 才能走出"我沒好處為什麼去做"的窠臼.
