韋伯辭典上的解釋：「a recessive black-fleeced individual in a flock of normally white-fleeced sheep。」或者其引申：「a member of a group that stands in conspicuous and unfavorable contrast to the other members.」都有其「害群之馬」的含義。

HIP HOP组合Black Sheep在1991年首张大碟《A Wolf in Sheep's Clothing》，中文可翻成披著羊皮的狼，而且團名就叫Black Sheep，萬一真的來台灣開演唱會，想必翻釋一定很熱鬧。

參考其他翻譯，如冒牌大間諜（Black Sheep）（1996)、或是瘋羊（Black Sheep）（2006)時，民視的本土電視劇也已出現「趕羚羊」還有「他，『馬的』」等台詞，大概又是引起爭議借以抬高收視率。
