Schneider's first-rank symptoms of schizophrenia are symptoms which, if present, are strongly suggestive of schizophrenia.
The first-rank symptoms of schizophrenia include:
* auditory hallucinations:
o hearing thoughts spoken aloud
o hearing voices referring to himself / herself, made in the third person
o auditory hallucinations in the form of a commentary
* thought withdrawal, insertion and interruption
* thought broadcasting
* somatic hallucinations
* delusional perception
* feelings or actions experienced as made or influenced by external agents

另一位學者Kurt Schneider認為某些症狀在精神分裂症的診斷上特別重要，將這些症狀稱為首級症狀(first-rank symptoms)，這些症狀代表自我界限的障礙，提供了現今對精神疾病系統化診斷標準的框架，在目前的診斷標準中仍佔有一定的比重。
1. 聽幻覺(auditory hallucinations)—內容可能是第二人稱或第三人稱，可能是評論性內容，命令式內容，或是在爭論，思想成音等。
2. 思考被抽走、思考被插入、思考被廣播(thought withdrawal, thought insertion, thought broadcasting)—病人往往覺得自己的思想不是屬於自己所擁有，而會被外界剝奪、插入及廣播。
3. 被影響及控制的經驗(experiencing feeling or actions under someone else’s control)—病人覺得被一種莫名的力量控制其思想、言行。
