This is a time for an industrial upgrade for Taiwan.Taiwan is just in a phase of transition from a labor-intensive marke to a R&D based industry. Economy is bound to suffer during phase transition. It's not going to be a smooth ride. The case of Taiwan is just slightly complicated by a political phase transition taking place at the same time.

Look at the big picture, don't pay too much attention to minor social and
economical unrests. Taiwanese are a special bunch. Most of them are still adjusting themselves to the transition. It's all too easy to get lost in a cloud of confusion and uncertainty. If I were you, I would be more worried about Canadian economy.
