Kidd class本來就是SPRUANCE class防空強化版本,為巡洋艦等級,提康德羅加級神盾艦未服役前它就是老美艦隊的防空主力!  |

KIDD原本是要支援伊朗巴勒維王朝而設計的,在史普倫斯級的艦體上加裝類似維吉尼亞級核動力巡洋艦的防空系統整合而成的多功能艦種,後來巴勒維王朝被推翻,新政府反美,所有對伊朗的軍售也終止,其中含這四艘KIDD...
再提康德羅加之前的防空任務主要是CG(N)-9~41負責的,這些巡洋艦隨便就是萬噸,CGN-9長灘號甚至高達一萬七千噸,這是當時的標準, KIDD...連邊都還沾不上...
