Q. What improvements have been introduced with firmware version 2.1?
The main change is the addition of improved automatic calibration routines that compensate for process spread and operating conditions.
Other improvements include:
• Improved sound quality for mono output modes (in particular for 7/8MHz systems).
• Increased tuner AGC speed (approximately 4-fold for analog TV).
• Improved sensitivity for 7/8MHz analog TV.
• Improved scanning reliability (see also suggested scan procedure in this document).
• DTV output frequency is now identical for UHF/VHF channels with BG systems.
• Distinction is now made between ATSC and QAM in 6MHz DTV mode. This permits different operating parameters that optimize performance trade-offs for the two different modulations.
• Improved support for strong signals in 7/8MHz DTV.
• We now provide specific support for 7 MHz DTV (Australia).
• Other changes resulting in improved reception quality.
Q. What is the recommended procedure for automatic video/sound standard detection?
For analog television, we recommend using standard detection information from an external chroma/sound decoder. Similarly, for digital television, we recommend using status information from an external DTV decoder.
Ultimately an external CVBS decoder can provide more complete and reliable standard information, typically by means of the chrominance burst.
