The DivX Media File Format
Perhaps the greatest advance in the Fusion beta release is the new DivX Media Format. DivX is far more than “just a codec”. The introduction of the DivX Media Format represents a broader future for DivX. We believe digital media offers many advantages for both content creators and consumers, and that the viewing experience should be as good in the digital world as it is in the physical world. We’re building tools and technologies to get us there, and the DivX Media Format is the first step.
The DivX Media Format (using the .divx file extension) is an enhanced file format that supports all of the advanced media features you've asked for, including:
XSUB™ subtitles
DivX Media Format files can include subtitles in the new XSUB™ subtitle format. Hardware manufacturers asked us to define a common subtitle format that could be supported by all DivX Certified devices, and here it is. (Most DivX Certified devices already include built-in support for XSUB subtitles.)
Alternate audio tracks
DivX Media Format files can now include multiple audio tracks (e.g., for use with multiple languages, etc.)
Interactive video menus
DivX Media Format files can now support interactive video menus to offer a more compelling experience for viewers and content creators.
XTAG™ video tags
Think ID3 for video. Add metadata tags to your DivX Media Format files for easy identification and organization.
The DivX Team are committed to full backward and forward compatibility. DivX Media Format files are backward compatible with all DivX Certified devices. Current certified devices support multiple audio tracks and XSUB subtitles, while future devices will support the entire DivX Media Format feature set.
