Probably wearied to see AMD nibbling shares of market and perhaps also upset to have to give up the race at the frequency, INTEL promises for 2005 an avalanche of functionalities intended to sit its notoriety and to take again the leadership in terms of performances. The first of these new processors to be born officially are Pentium 4 of series 6, which quickly will succeed current series 5.
Equipped with 2 Mo of L2 mask and instructions EM64T, these new processors will also support technology EIST. Announced at frequencies ranging between 3.0 (630) and 3.6 GHz (660), Pentium 4 series 6 will be accompanied by the traditional development, Pentium 4 EE 3.73 GHz (720). We thus will see whether the practical profits of performances brought by this refresh of the core Prescott are worth displacement. With this intention, we will test Pentium 4 630 (most economic) and Pentium 4 EE 720 (expensive) that we will compare with the old range of INTEL, P4 5xx, but also with Athlon 64 of AMD. We will also benefit from it to give a progress report on the new functionalities brought and the new architecture of the mask. Of course, we will also show some tests of overclocking in order to the capacities of this new core in this field. With the program, much of surprised...
