Diane Selwyn is a failed actress who has seen her career collapse spectacularly, and her girlfriend walk off with a hotshot film director. So she arranges to have her killed. However, when she realises the enormity of what she has had done, and that the cops are on the verge of arresting her, she retreats into a final paranoid fantasy, in which she casts herself as the greatest actress and nicest person ever, and brands everyone who (as she sees it) contributed to her failure as losers, gangsters, perverts and idiots. Most of all, she views her former lover as a helpless amnesiac, rather than the strong, confident woman she was. However, it all goes pear-shaped and she is forced to confront what she has done. Unable to cope, she kills herself.
