Introduction to Over-speed Burning Feature

Introduction
As a leader in the DVD technology arena, BenQ is committed to delivering a BenQ DW1600 DVD Re-Writer, which is designed for customers in search of fastest possible DVD recording speed. Apart from the “Write Right Technologies”, an over-speed burning is supported to enhance the performance. Hence, BenQ customers can still experience the 16x writing speed with 8x DVD+R media even there is not many 16x DVD+R media is available on the market. A testing for this feature has been done, and the results are shown as following.

Testing Methodology
In order to show the real writing speed for each media, CD-DVD Speed will be used for such testing. The PI, PO & Jitter values of each burnt media will also be measured by it after real writing. It aims to show the writing quality under 12x or 16x writing speed. There are 10 brands DVD+R media (see list below) will be tested, and which are supported to write as 12x or 16x speed by BenQ DW1600 DVD Re-Writer.

*This table is based on f/w B5C9, newer version will support more 8x DVD+R media in over-speed burning.

Verification on Testing Results
According to the test results below, it only took approximately 6 minutes to burn a 4.3GB data into a DVD+R disc with 16x writing speed. The total burning time is within 7 minutes with 12x writing speed. Furthermore, the measurement results by CD-DVD Speed v3.03 indicated that the writing quality (PI, PO & Jitter) is good enough for each burnt media even it is burnt at 12x or 16x speed.

Conclusion
The drive performance is always an important point for end users, but the writing quality is the most consideration factor for R & D Engineers. It is the major target to achieving both performance and quality in BenQ Optical Storage Products.

BenQ believes that the over-speed burning feature must bring a great benefit to customers. And, more 8x DVD+R media will be supported for this over-speed burning feature by later firmware version.
