美軍的主力潛艦部隊688級全部都是核子動力,英國特拉法加,俄國的阿庫拉,勝利,阿爾法...等都是核動力
關於燃料濃度不同的問題,一般商用核子反應爐用的燃料U235濃度只有5%以下,其他都是安定的U238
潛艦上使用的稍微不同,為了縮小體積並提高功率,濃度提升到了95%但是仍然相對安定,有不同的處理程序來應付各狀況,雖然仍有核爆的可能,但是那要將功率輸出到120%以上甚至更多,軍用的100%是指能長期安全運作為前提,但是位了戰術上的需求,有時需要額外的爆發力來擺脫魚雷或是逃離,這時可超載反應爐
核彈頭上使用的則高達99.9999%,其危險程度甚至只要拿鐵鎚往燃料一敲就會爆炸
