海軍方面當初已經設計好了,魚雷管是多用途的,也可以用來發射潛射巡弋飛彈,而且BGM-109 戰斧飛彈直徑是20.4英吋 (51.81 cm,518.1mm)還比魚雷管的�X徑小(533mm, 21吋),絕對打的出去,何況海狼將管徑擴大到660?

當初就是因為魚雷庫的載彈量不足22+4,所以才要另外設計VLS來另外攜帶12枚巡弋飛彈以增加對地打擊火力,而海狼有50+8,當初就已經考慮到載彈量與火力投射的問題,所以不必要裝VLS

另外,VLS只能用一次,設完了就要回基地或是由補給船重新裝填,航行中是無法裝填的
