hi, gam五年級, i bought memorex and have tested for 3 weeks; at the beginning the fan didn't work so i have returned it to replace with a new one; secondly i've problems with melody x4 dvd+r disc, it has now been approved the disc is bad and the machine has no problem with +r; however, i like to use +rw disc (by far no faulty +rw discs from my experiences, about 60pcs) as i could erase any recording if any mis-recording; like using vhs tapes; very very very convenient & most of all, +rw is rather cheap, i have recorded tv programes and then play them in another low price dvd player without problems, guess they have offered booktype function
in fact, i think inside memorex is exactly the same as inside sampo dv-r1; using Cirrus encoding chip sets (very powerful chips including AAC decoding, dvd-audio decoding... but the machine has limited its functions) and more stable than philip's engine; the drive is Ricoh 5240a x4rw, quite stable as well but i don't know the duribility yet as only 3 weeks passed; the dv to dvd mepg2 encoding chip set is from philip (where i don't know much if there is a problem as my d8 is failing and sent for repairing; i have tried 2 times before d8 sent for repair & the pic quality is excellent)
the appearance of lite-on & memorex is quite at the same level - cheap look; lite-on is better on catalogue, memorex is better in real
pic quality: HQ (60min/disc) is excellent; SP (120mins/disc) will rely on the quality of the sources; never tried under SP mode
one function i would like to have but it does not appear on this machine is "deviding a recorded title'; the Cirrus chip set has provide the function according to its spec sheet but the platform of software does not offer it, why? I have sent an email to ask both the maker (M.E.T.) & Cirrus, but got no reply.
i don't know much about lite-on model only by now it is Sanyo's pick-up laser head, ESS engine from taiwan, but regarding the dv-dvd converter, i don't know who has offered the chip set (i think perhaps also philips)? however i prefer ricoh's dvd drive when it comes to the same price level; i have good repressions when/still i am using ricoh's cd-rw drive for more than 2 years without any faulty.
bassically now on the market, all taiwan-made (made in china?) dvd recorders are based on lite-on model or M.E.T (ricoh) model no matter which brand they have put on the machine (Mustek is older & no 1394 port); benQ has yet launched its model, which, i think, will be based on philip's as they are alias
i was too excited to get a dvd-recorder earlier and lucky enough to get +r/rw format before i have studied the format-war as +r/rw is indeed a very nice format, especially +rw (no existing re-writable format could offer same functions like +rw, including compatibility); but i am sure soon the taiwan-made models will drop its pricing to NTD10,000-15,000 depends if 1394 dv port is offered or not as this port will cause more cost; also expect a build-in hard drive model could come out soon maybe in next year, there may be recorder could offer dvd+r/rw dual layer burning, that will be superb as i have transferred ld to dvd in HQ mode, that will cost me two discs for one ld programe to get the best quality
if you could get a sony gx-7 around 25k; that is the best choice by far regarding the building quality & the format even it does not offer +r recording; forget -rw or -ram; they are good in japan but i am sure +rw will fly soon in near future as we could see situation on the disc market; now price of +r/rw has dropped and more suppliers are offering
