How to test ATX power supply work?

My friend gave me an used ATX power supply. I'm not sure it works or not.

Before I put in the mother board, how can I boot it, make the fan turn, measure the 5Vv/12V power connect?

connect the green wire to any of the black wire to make the PSU turn on
green wire=ps_on
black wire=ground
