Mass murderer Anders Breivik says being lonely in prison is AGAINST his EU human rights
Breivik, who massacred 77 people in 2011, launched legal action against the Norwegian state in order to grant him more access to other prisoners and limit censorship of his letters.
His lawyer, Oeystein Storrvik, bemoaned the killer's conditions, claiming "he has a very extreme degree of isolation".
He said: "He has a right to have contact with other people."
The 36-year-old set off a bomb in central Oslo four years ago, killing eight people. He then took a boat to an island where the Labour party were holding a summer camp and shot dead a further 69 people.
Breivik, a right-wing Christian fanatic, was sentenced to 21 years - which is the maximum in Norway. But his term can be extended if he is considered a threat to society.
In April Norwegian media reported that he was threatened in jail by another person, who almost broke through security and yelled "if there wasn't a door between us I'd kill you" to the mass killer.
Storrvik insisted his client should be granted more freedom.
He said: "It should be possible for him to have contact with other people without getting hurt."
In his legal papers, the killer referred to the European Convention on Human Rights, which states "no one shall be subjected to torture or to inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment".
While investigating the murders, police found a 1,500-page manifesto in Breivik's apartment, titled A European Declaration of Independence.
Breivik spent nine years plotting the massacre and even attempted to create a secret terrorist organisation, urging followers to don military-style uniforms and to banish Muslims from western Europe by 2020.
Last month a court heard how a ginger-haired extremist compared himself to Breivik after he tried to conduct deadly terror attacks by growing cyanide on Shredded Wheat.
Mark Colborne, 37, is also accused of plotting to murder Prince Charles to increase the chances of ginger-haired Prince Harry becoming king.
Colborne allegedly felt belittled because of the colour of his hair and compared himself to lone wolf terrorists like Breivik and Oklahoma bomber Timothy McVeigh.
